When operations at Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNRL)’s Albian mine came to a halt, it wasn’t just a bad day—it was the kind of high-stakes scenario that demands strong leadership, fast decisions, and clear communication. One leader stepped up using the Pre-Task Briefing Tool used in crisis situations—something she had learned in her training with All Around Performance.
In a moment where information was flying and tensions were rising, she brought structure to the situation by calling on the Pre-Task Briefing (PTB) Tool. This tool, taught as part of our High Performance Communication course, gave the team a clear and immediate way to align.
“We were down flat. We needed to come together… it was a structured way of putting everybody’s thoughts to paper… effectively communicating what we wanted, what success looked like, who was doing what, and who was there to help.”
Instead of reacting chaotically, her team responded with clarity and direction—leading to quick action and better results.
“Looking back, I would have also used the SIT Rep. I actually saved it to my phone so I can copy and paste it in future situations and report that back.”
She also reflected on the broader impact All Around’s training had made on her leadership approach—especially in building high-performing teams:
“Not everyone on the team is at that high-performing level… but you helped me realize it’s not about giving up on them—it’s about finding the right motivation.”
This is exactly what we aim for at All Around Performance—delivering practical, structured tools that help leaders stay composed and effective in real-world scenarios.
The Pre-Task Briefing Tool used in crisis at CNRL is just one of many tools included in our training programs. You can find the PTB in all of our service offerings—explore our full list of services here.
